Some matches are made in heaven like rajma-chawal or bread-butter and we cannot think of separating them ever. Over time we have created some food combinations which are both popular and tasty. However, each food has different chemicals and combining them together may not always be a great idea. While these combos may be tasty, they are sure to be unhealthy and cause you harm in the long term, without you realizing it.
Here we list down some popular food combinations that spell trouble for your health.
Cereals and Juices
All we want in the morning is something to give us energy for the whole day ahead. Combination of cereal and juice is popular to provide us with the much-needed energy but it can also cause some amount of discomfort. It happens because fruits and juices are acidic in nature which can curdle the milk and turn it into mucus forming substance. Also, both cereals and juices have high sugar content which is again not healthy for us and can cause various health issues.
Banana and Milk
Who loves banana-milkshake? Almost all of us, right? This food combination is standard and nobody gives a second thought about it. However, according to experts, it might not be as good as it tastes. Both banana and milk have different properties and can cause confusion in our digestive system causing it to function abnormally. Milk is sweet while banana is sour which can cause infections like cough, cold congestion, rashes and allergies. It is strictly advised against for asthma patients. Although, those who are aiming for weight gain and bodybuilding swear by it.
Yoghurt and Fruit
A regular breakfast meal! Yoghurt is good for the gut. However, it is not advised to mix any sour fruits with dairy as it can diminish digestive fire, change the intestinal flora, produce toxins and cause sinus, congestion, cold and cough. It would be a better option to opt for unflavored yoghurt at room temperature and mix it with honey, a pinch of cinnamon powder and raisins instead of acidic fruit.
Pizza and Soda
Pizza without soda is incomplete. Most of us do not even think about eating pizza without any fizzy drink or carbonated beverages. The carbs in the pizza along with proteins and starch consumes a lot of our body’s energy for digestion. In addition to this, the sugar in the soda slows down digestion.
Burger and Fries
Burger and fries go hand in hand. But have you ever considered the fact that both of them are deep fried which makes them high in trans fats. Consuming them together can cause your blood sugar level to decrease and make you feel tired and sleepy.
Tomatoes and Pasta
No pasta is complete without tomatoes or cheese sauce. Tomatoes are acidic and should not be mixed with starchy carbs such as pasta. The tomatoes which are highly acidic in nature will cause hindrance in the digestion of starch and will result in bloating. Our body will require a ton of energy to digest this meal. So having pasta with pesto and grilled veggies instead seems like a better alternative.
We are sure that the truth about some of these combos shocked you; after all, these are some of the most popular food combinations in the world. Our advice to you is to pay attention to the properties of the food you are mixing. A little care can save you from unwanted illnesses.
