Don’t you love relaxing and indulging in rejuvenating activities? Our body is the same; it also needs cleansing, healing or simply put in better words detoxing.
Few of your colleagues have started fasting twice a week and don’t you mistake them for some merely religious ladies. They are truly wise because they chose to listen to their bodies and opted for a traditional and really effective way of detoxing.
Detoxification is a process in which the body throws out the toxins out of the body through physiological processes. Toxins are any substance that can be poisonous or cause negative health effects. Toxin refers to all the metals, chemicals, pollutants, artificial food ingredients, pesticides, and poisons that cause the body harm.
You might be really conscious about your health and take all the necessary precautions when it comes to good hygiene. But all this is not enough as we are in constant contact with harmful organisms and pollutants. They are in our water, in our food, and in the air we breathe; you can’t really avoid them. But you can for sure eliminate them from your body, try detox the mighty way to keep your body healthy.
Signs that your body needs detoxifying
You might be a really healthy individual who takes proper care of oneself, just like all of us living in the never stopping and really demanding world. But do you often feel lazy, sleepy and constantly irritated? You might not be as healthy you think you are. Your body speaks to you through various signs that it is time for detoxification, so listen closely.
Some of the most common signs are:
- Unexplained fatigue
- Sluggish digestion
- Irritability to scents
- Irritated skin
- Low-grade infection
- Puffy eyes or bags under the eyes
- Bloating or acidity
- Menstrual problems
- Bad breath
- Mental confusion
Detoxification- the process
The excretory system of our body does a major job of detoxifying the body. The skin too eliminates a lot of toxins through the acne or sweating. But a large number of toxins are still left in our body which is either removed by relaxing the muscles by fasting or by using some natural agents to remove the toxins from the blood stream. The entire body relies on this system to live a healthy life. Your body is detoxifying itself all the time; round the clock, all you need to do is to help your body do the same. Even your brain flushes out toxins while you sleep. It’s essential to take care of these organs and allow them to do their job.
Importance of detox
Its always said to forget the bad things and carry on all the good things in mind. Likewise, your body should let go the toxins and clear the system for a healthy you. So, the body should follow and practice some planned regime to detoxify the system.
A detox program should be planned that it helps the body’s natural cleansing process by:
- Resting the organs through fasting
- Stimulating the liver to drive toxins from the body
- Promoting elimination through the intestines, kidneys, and skin
- Improving circulation of the blood
- Refueling the body with healthy nutrients.
Best ways to detoxify
Eat Whole foods
The major source of chemicals and toxins comes from our food. Look for whole foods free of preservatives, conservatives, and coloring agents. If available, choose chemical-free and organic varieties of pulses, rice or any other grain.
Eat fibre rich foods
Eat plenty of fibre, including brown rice and organically grown fresh fruits and vegetables. Beets, radishes, gaanth gobhi, cabbage, broccoli are excellent detoxifying foods. A juice diet is also helpful and is centered around consuming freshly-made fruit and vegetable juice—preferably organic.
Find your toxic triggers
Toxicity is not a new problem. Long before burden of human-made chemicals has been added to our bodies, toxic buildup could occur from eating too many of the foods that don’t work for you. So, find out with a controlled diet pattern that what kind of food shall suit your body.
Water is best
Water is possibly the most valuable tool for detoxifying your body. The body’s most basic functions require water. Your body needs water to produce saliva, help with perspiration and remove waste. Drink at least two quarters of water a day.
Increase physical work
Increasing physical work is to increase the physical activity of your body. The more activity will help you sweat and sweating helps release toxins through your skin. The muscles also release hormones and chemicals which relax the body and help in feeling light and clear.
With the increase in pollution in the environment the air we breathe has enough pollutants which are really harmful for our body. Try to keep the area around you clean and without any dust and pollutants. Smoke, fumes, pet dander, mold, mildew, and microorganisms can make the air in your home more toxic than the air outside. Use green plants around the houses especially the ones which absorb the toxins from air. Breathe deeply to allow oxygen to circulate more completely through your system.
Yoga is a physical regime that one should practice religiously. Yoga not only improves the physiological processes of the body but also detoxes the body and organs. Yoga is one the most primitive methods, it’s benefits are known to everyone. So, try adapting a simple yoga regime in your daily routine. Some breathing and meditation asanas can do wonders and really positively affect you.
By fasting the digestive system gets rest. There is no biological link to detoxification but the whole body gets ample rest. Choose fasting techniques where heavy deep-fried food is substituted by intake of healthy fluids .
Take vitamin C, which helps the body produce glutathione, a liver compound that drives away toxins. You can have a glass of nimbu pani every day. Increase lemon and citrus fruits in diet.
Listen to good music, go for a holiday, go for shopping – basically do whatever makes you happy and relaxed. The happier you stay the more effective is the detoxification.
Consult your doctor before using any health treatment, including herbal supplements and natural remedies, and tell your doctor if you have a serious medical condition or are taking any medications. Make few of these above mentioned points a habit of living so there is no prescribed regime of how many times to detoxify.
