It causes shortness of breath, wheezing and cough. The irritation caused in the small airways also hinders with the normal breathing and hinders with the transportation of oxygen from the lungs.

Along with certain chemicals and toxic gases, certain medical conditions like viral infections, pneumonia, autoimmune conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and collagen disease are also related with popcorn lungs.

The same chemical is used as a  flavouring agent in e-cigarettes which is the major culprit behind the rise in the popcorn lung cases.
