Introduction

Ladies, regardless of how long you have been engaging in sexual activity, there are some faults you might be committing. People pay attention to the dos and don’ts of having sex but not the pre- and post-sex dos and don’ts, which may raise the risk of infections. There are several frequent mistakes that most women do shortly after sex that may raise your risk of infections and thus put you in trouble.

Here, we’re providing you with some advice so that you can keep from making blunders straight after your sexual encounter.

Not peeing after sex

Do not refrain from peeing after sex, ladies. Yes, you can feel lethargic after having sex. For a while, you might not feel like getting out of bed and leaving your partner. But you need to know it. Urinating will help in removing all unwanted bacteria and germs that may have entered your body following sexual activity. It is important for preventing UTIs.

Cleaning the genital area with moist wipes

There is a big no for this, Yes, it’s important to keep your vagina clean after intercourse, but not in this way. Because the vagina is so fragile and sensitive, wet wipes’ chemical ingredients may cause excessive vaginal itching and irritation.

Wearing tight clothes

It is a good idea to allow for free drainage and air because there is typically an excess of bodily fluids and friction that causes bacteria to grow. Tight-fitting nightwear or lingerie should be avoided because the fabric also causes infections. If you don’t want to sleep naked, you can wear pyjamas instead, it is also advised to take off the lingerie while sleeping to avoid discomfort.

Avoid using perfumed or scented items in your vaginal area.

While scented soaps, gels, washes, lotions, and other genital health products are beneficial, they should be avoided for washing your vagina after sex since they might alter the PH balance of your vagina. The good and regular bacteria that are present in the vagina are killed by these scented products. Without these good bacteria, yeast grows freely resulting in a yeast infection (a vaginal infection that causes itchiness and burning in and around your vagina).

It is advised to simply use lukewarm water to wash the genitalia. Maintain a modest and mild post-sex washing method to avoid genital irritation from strong odours or chemicals.

Avoid taking a hot bubble bath

After sex, cuddling in a hot bath may seem like the perfect idea, but it could increase your risk of contracting an infection. A hot water bath might give the bacteria a temperature where they can grow easily. The vagina somewhat widens in response to sexual stimulation. Studies show that right after sex when you take a warm bath, your vulnerability to infections increases.

Final thoughts

An enjoyable and intimate sexual experience strengthens your bond with your partner. Additionally, regular intercourse is good for your physical and mental wellness. Making love can improve heart health, and relieve anxiety and stress.

Experts also advise regular STI testing and one should get checked every 6 months for better sexual health.  It is also advised that one shouldn’t hold off on discussing any worries one may have with their partner until after one has had sex. Instead, it’s always advisable to be open and honest with your partner right away.

Furthermore, you should also undergo preventive health checkups. These health checkups give a complete report about your health, allowing you to take necessary precautionary measures to improve your well-being and keep a host of ailments at bay.
