I am exhausted from trying to be stronger than I feel.”

Do you have this feeling all the time? Do you feel drained in-spite of sleeping well and appearing in good health? If yes, then you are not the only one feeling so. Feeling tired all the time is pretty annoying, especially when you don’t have an explanation for this energy drain. Though lack of sleep, over work and stress are the most common reasons that may make you feel tired all day, there are some common health problems which can keep you drained off always. Lets have a look at these.

Reasons for Low Energy

Skipping Breakfast

Only few people are aware about the benefits of breakfast. It is the most important meal of the day, and skipping it can lead to low energy levels.  It is important to boost our body early morning with the right amount of nutrients, after an extended period of fasting (night time). Without this boost our body will be running on an empty stomach, leaving us starved by lunchtime. It lowers the sugar level in our body making us feel drained out.

“To start the day on a healthy energised note, have a  combination of  healthy carbohydrates, like fruit, veggies, and whole grains, with a protein source, such as eggs, nuts, or dairy”,  as advised by Saumya Shatakshi, Senior Nutrition and Wellness Consultant, Healthians.

Anaemia

This is a very common problem in the current scenario. Most of the people suffering from anaemia are completely unaware about it. Anaemia can be caused by an vitamin or iron deficiency, blood loss, internal bleeding, or a chronic disease such as rheumatoid arthritis, cancer, or kidney failure.

The fatigue caused by anaemia is the result of a lack of red blood cells, which are responsible for carrying oxygen from the lungs to the body tissues and cells. The person suffering from anaemia feels tired all the time. If you are one of those, then it is time to get tested for anaemia.

Sleep Apnoea

Apnoea is a sleep disrupting problem, in which a person always wakes up feeling tired no matter for how long they have slept. In obstructive sleep apnoea the upper airways actually closes or collapses for a few seconds, which in turns alert the brain  to wake up and breath again. It is mostly signalled by snoring and makes the person feeling tired the next day. So, if you are lacking on a sound good night sleep, it is time to get checked and treated!

Diabetes

Diabetes is the most common health problem these days. The irony is most of the people suffering from it are not even aware about it. Sugar called as glucose, is the fuel that keeps our body going. People suffering with type 2 diabetes are not able to use this glucose properly, causing it to build up in the blood. Without enough energy to keep the body running smoothly, people suffering with diabetes mostly notice fatigue. This is rather the first warning sign of diabetes. Get your sugar levels tested at the earliest.

Drinking Too Much Caffeine

Everyone wants to have their morning cup of cup of tea or coffee; to keep them going thought the day. Little are we aware that caffeine can give us a jolt, but at the same time it can leave us crashing if ingested too much. Drinking caffeinated beverages in the afternoon time can start to have an effect on the sleep quality. This can make you feel drained out most of the time. If you are addicted to tea or coffee, it is time o replace your drink, and feel the energy rush!

Lack Of Exercise

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy!

Work out is very important to keep the energy levels charged up. Adding a workout in our daily routine will keep our energy levels boosted. Regular exercise helps in improving our sleep quality. No exercise can keep us feeling dull and lethargic thought the day. So get up and get going! Give yourself atleast half an hour a day and see the difference for yourself.

Thyroid

Another common problem these days is of hyperthyroidism (too much thyroid hormone) or hypothyroidism (too little thyroid hormone). When it is hyperthyroidism then the metabolism speeds up whereas when it is hypothyroidism, the metabolism slows down. When the thyroid hormone causes problem then everyday activities gets disrupted. Common problems include fatigue, lack of energy and sudden weight loss or gain. Get tested for thyroid if you can relate to these symptoms.

Depression

Depression is a major illness that runs turmoil in our life. It can have an influence on the way we eat, sleep and feel about ourselves. Depression is an emotional disorder that can cause decreased energy, problems with memory and concentration, and feelings of hopelessness, worthlessness, and negativity. It can lead to unexplained fatigue. It is important to consult a doctor if you are feeling blue all the time!

“If you are waking up tired and uninspired you need to re-evaluate how you are spending your time! It’s time to make some lifestyle changes. Getting more sleep, eat more wholesome foods, drink more fluids, take a multivitamin, and cut back on caffeine, alcohol and exercise more”, adds Saumya Shatakshi, Senior Nutrition and Wellness Consultant, Healthians.
