Are you somebody who washes their hands a million times a day? Or are you somebody who refuses to eat street food because it is unhygienic?  If yes, we have many names to describe you. For starters, a germophobe, a neat freak, fastidious, and a lot more.

We hate to break it to you, but you have OCD, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder that makes you obsessive about good hygiene. While it’s good to be hygienic, do you know that there are certain everyday things you do that are the opposite of being hygienic?

Today, in this blog, we will be talking about some of those things that are super unhygienic. So, sit back and read along after you clean your keyboard and phones because they are included in the list.

Biting pens

We know what you do when you write or read something. You don’t hold a pen and twist it for hours, but you choose the most unhygienic thing, you bite it.

Here’s a truth bomb alert, biting pens is the last thing you should be doing if you consider yourself super hygienic. Please note, the pens you use, or your whole team and classmates use collectively, are a host of germs. Imagine how unhygienic you are being if you bite that very pen. Scary, right?

So, we hope the next time you use a pen, you use it to write it, not bite it. If you are looking for something to fidget, use something else that is not an abode for homes.

You don’t wash your bedding frequently

You walk into your room and see a clean and tidy bed decked up with a pretty bedsheet – what a soothing sight it would be for someone who comes back home after a tiring day at work. But as much as you like that pretty bedsheet, you must know that cleaning it regularly is essential. If you are not doing it, you are only inviting illnesses and infections.

We understand washing bedding can be exhausting and time-consuming but it is essential. After all, you come home carrying dust, dirt and germs on your body and lie down on your bed. What happens next? You transfer these germs on your bedsheets. Not so hygienic, right?

Just so you know, unwashed bed sheets can lead to a staph infection, which can escalate into septicaemia if it makes its way into your bloodstream. You don’t want that, do you?

Hence, now you know what to do. Aim to wash your bedding every week to be hygienic.

Using your phone

You wash your clothes, you wash your pillow covers, but what about your phone? It’s obvious you can’t wash it, but you can clean it. Just so you know, phones are a breeding house of germs and bacteria.  As far as research is concerned, don’t be surprised to find out that your phone contains 500 times more germs than your toilet. We hope that makes you sanitize your phone right this moment.

Your computer’s keyboard

Here is something that can make you stop working if you are reading this post on your computer. Just as your phone is dirtier than a toilet, so is your keyboard. As per research conducted by a firm in London, it was revealed that keyboards can be dirty enough to cause food poisoning.

So, isn’t this a wake-up call for you to get up and clean your keyboard at this very moment?

A shopping cart

When you think about it, it is not that surprising. After all, a shopping cart is touched by a hundred people a day. Their dirty hands touch it, so why wouldn’t be a shopping cart dirty? Not to mention, how could we be sure as to how often it is cleaned or if it is cleaned ever?

So, we hope that the next time you go grocery shopping, you would use a wipe to clean the shopping cart, or its handle at least.

Closing thoughts

It is astonishing how many unhygienic habits we unknowingly engage in every day. By becoming more aware of these hidden sources of germs and bacteria, we can take simple yet effective steps to improve our daily hygiene practices.

By incorporating regular cleaning routines, maintaining personal hygiene, and adopting healthier habits, we can create a cleaner and safer environment for ourselves and those around us. Let us remember that small changes can make a big difference in promoting a healthier and more hygienic lifestyle.
